Monkwearmouth’s year 8s lifted the Sunderland Schools League Cup on Friday as they continued their momentum after their impressive county cup win earlier in the week.

Year 8 edged the affair against Castle View 2-1 which gave them the Arkless Cup for the first time since 2016.

They had already won a thrilling penalty shoot-out against Carmel College from Darlington 6-5 on Wednesday and winning on Friday meant they succeeded in winning a double.

A statement on the academy’s Facebook read: “Our talented Y8 squad made it two out of two cup final wins this week with a fantastic display against Castle View this evening.

“An incredible week from the lads who along with the support of the parents have represented the Academy with pride this week.

“Three trophies for the group with one more up for grabs next week.

“Super proud of you all lads.”

There is also a league decider to be settled next week, in which case Monkwearmouth’s year 8s may win a treble this season.
