It was an impressive day for the football 4ths.

A hat-trick from Deonte Jam inspired Sunderland 4ths to come back from 4-1 down as Sunderland football fourths defeated York St John 7-5.

Sunderland started the game positively and went 1-0 up after Christian Ivanov intercepted a pass out from York’s keeper, before lobbing it over him from 30 yards to give Sunderland an early lead.

York dominated the rest of the half, and scored four goals without reply to lead 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Crucially Deonte Jam pulled one back just before half-time, as Sunderland trailed 4-2 at the break.

Sunderland halved the deficit two minutes into the second half, as Chris Lewis headed home a free kick whipped in by Lewis Beadle to make it 4-3.

York St John made it 5-3 soon after before the Sunderland fightback went into full force.

Sunderland dominated the second half and were rewarded with two quick goals to tie the scores at 5-5 going into the closing stages.

Deonte Jam was the hero with two further goals to complete his hat-trick, and a very impressive comeback for Sunderland fourths in the Clash of the Minsters.

Sunderland’s Conor Stroud said: “The goal just before before half time was crucial and gave us the opportunity to come back.

“Second half we dominated the game and deserved the win. Deonte got a hat-trick but Lewis Beadle deserves an honourable mention for two goal-line clearances, and I cleared two off the line as well.”
