University of Sunderland’s basketball third team return to BUCS league action this Wednesday as they travel to face Leeds Trinity 1sts.
Like their first-team Yorkshire counterparts, the Sunderland 3rds have started the new season in a slow fashion – loosing all three of their matches.
However, having played a match fewer, the home side – armed with quality first team players – may fancy their chances of a first victory.
Basketball president Aidan Langford spoke of his desire for the team to get their season up and running.
He said: “It’s very early on in the season and all the basketball teams haven’t got out on the best foot. However, we can’t keep our heads down, so we train hard, listen to our teammates and always focus on becoming better and winning against Leeds.”
Following the week off, a meeting was held between basketball chiefs Langford and vice-president Gong Zhenyao.
“As a team or society we can’t change what’s in the past, but we can look ahead and make sure they’re all prepared both physically and mentally for the next game,” Langford added.
Yet despite the poor start, hopes for a successful campaign are still high on the agenda.
“Just like all competitive teams our main aim is winning. Although in order to do that we have to collaborate as a team, basketball isn’t an individual sport and therefore requires everyone to work together collectively to obtain the best result,” said Langford.
Tip-off is scheduled for 5pm on Wednesday 16 Novermber at the Sports Hall at Leeds Trinity University.
