Boldon CA look to progress in the Durham Cup.

Focus turns to the Durham Trophy for Boldon CA on Saturday as they travel to Hartlepool FC for their first game in the cup.

Boldon have fared well on the road in the past couple of weeks, with their only defeat coming against Saturday’s hosts.

It was a 4-2 victory in Boldon’s previous outing over local rivals South Shields reserves – which gave them more ground over Wolviston FC who sit in sixth.

Sitting fifth in the league, Boldon have a 12 point cushion on the Pools. However, Hartlepool have got the better of CA twice already this season.

In the first meeting this season, the Pools ran riot in an emphatic 5-0 victory. The second meeting came in the the Charity Cup where again Hartlepool cruised to a 3-1 victory.

Over the past two seasons manager, Paul Mossa has tightened the defence after conceding 87 goals in the 2015/16 season.

However, Boldon need to solve their defensive problems that they’ve faced against Hartlepool – having already conceded eight goals in the last two meetings against FC.

Meanwhile, the Pools’ striker James Tumilty enters the cup game in excellent goalscoring form.

Securing a 2-0 victory on the weekend, his two goals upped his goal tally to 24 for the season so far.

For Boldon, their leaky defence has improved over the past two seasons. However, they need to be more clinical in front of their opposition’s goal.

Strikers Adam Bell and Kriss Gross have netted 11 league goals between them this season.

Most impressively, Gross scoring six goals in just six appearances – CA will be looking at him on Saturday to lead them to victory.
