Boldon continued their fine run of form with a 2-0 win over fourth-placed Hordon CW in the Wearside Football League on Saturday.
The deadlock was finally broken from the penalty spot after a largely uneventful first-half. MacLeod was judged to have handled the ball underneath his own crossbar following a header from Boldon’s Evans after 62 minutes. The Hordon player was shown the red card, and Clarke stepped up to send Boldon into a 1-0 lead.
Boldon were considered the underdogs coming into this game but gave Horden a tough time of it, and looked to capitalise on their man advantage in the final half hour.
The man advantage took its toll when, after 71 minutes, Bell dribbled past two defenders and sent in an excellent cross to allow Dobinson to head Boldon into a two goal lead. The home side controlled the final 20 minutes to clinch a 2-0 win.
Boldon manager Jason Jones said: “Everyone at the club was very happy with the result against a very good and well placed Horden team. This win consolidates Boldon’s mid table postion and winning run also is continued”.
