After a poor start to the season, mainly down to a lack of players and injuries to key players, the University of Sunderland men’s tennis team have put in a string of solid performances to stay away from relegation.
Konstantinos Avelos and Andrew Waddell have been brilliant this season, as well as Paddy Horne and captain Phil Rudd.
Waddell left the team after Christmas, which will give the opportunity for a 2nds player to step up.
“Andrew has been a massive player the season,” said Rudd. “He’s not only a good player but a good motivator for other players too. He will be a big miss to us no doubt, but hopefully someone else can thrive on their chance and be successful too.”
He added: “This season has been a struggle on a personal level, I haven’t won as many matches as I’d hoped and have had a couple of injuries too. However, I think it’s been a success for the team, and I hope we can push for promotion next year.”
