The Stars finished an impressive second place in the Main Routine category, as the enthusiastic 24 strong squad performed a complex and spirited routine involving tumbles, dancing and pyramids.
President Kale Crane was overjoyed with the weekend’s result.
He said: “As president I’m extremely pleased with the whole team who represented the university with style and grace.
“With the Main Routine we entered the hardest category we had ever been in and the performance was the best we had performed it to date.”
The Stars now look forward to their next competition against the Teesside Wildcats in the annual Tees-Wear Varsity next month.
Travelling with the Sunderland Stars to Manchester was another local team the Northern Vipers, based in South Shields and made up mostly of members of the Sunderland Stars.
The Vipers’ impressive form at Nationals granted them the opportunity to represent the UK in the European Cheerleading Championships this summer.
