University of Sunderland Archery President Stephen Foster was proud of his side despite Teesside taking their first Varsity victory of the day in against his team of archers.
The scores were evenly matched throughout the entire match.
Sunderland couldn’t hold on for the victory and just missed out on the win by 18 points, which works out as roughly two arrows.
The final score saw Teesside with a combined total of 1860 to Sunderland’s 1842.
After the match, Sunderland President Stephen Foster talked about how proud he was of the team.
He said: “We were missing some key archers and if they were available for Varsity, we more than likely would have won.
“We will be celebrating with a lot of alcohol…and then we will start training after an exam break.”
Both teams produced very impressive scores, in both categories.
Teesside’s best contributors to the overall winning scores were; Chris West, Will Davidson, David Cunningham and Rahab McQueen.
Sunderland’s best contributors were; Luke McLaughlin, Jessica Elliot, Chynna Downie and Tyler Tritton.
There was also the novice competition; Cunningham, McQueen and Stephanie Hodges contributed for Teesside. McLaughlin, Downie and Elliot helped again for Sunderland.
