Hebburn Town were blown away in front of their own fans in their season-ending defeat.

Hebburn Town have missed out on an FA Cup place after Blyth Town scored four first half goals in a 5-0 victory at Hebburn on Saturday.

Blyth strikers Malky Morien and Gary Day scored two goals each in a first half demolition in the Northern League Division Two.

The Hornets knew that only a victory in their final game would guarantee them a top ten finish and a FA Cup place next season.

The home side got off to the worst possible start when Morien set up Day to put Blyth ahead inside eight minutes.

It took the visitors just two minutes to double their lead as Matty Tumilty set up Morien who finished well to put serious pressure on Hebburn Town.

Blyth knew they had already secured their FA Cup place for next season and were playing with a freedom evident of this when Day did well to set up Morien who grabbed his second of the game inside 20 minutes to make it 3-0.

Hebburn pushed forward in an attempt to get themselves back into the game but were punished just before half time when Day did well to find space to score his second and give Blyth a 4-0 advantage at half time.

Hornets manager Scott Oliver made changes at half time, bringing on Craig Malley for Chris Smith and Michael Watson for Chris Feasey and, switching formation to their usual 4-4-2.

The change seemed to work as the home side improved greatly in the second half in midfielder Alan Pegram’s last league game for Hebburn.

Pegram, who is retiring at the end of the season, was replaced just before the hour mark by Channon North to a great round of applause from the home supporters.

Despite the hosts improvement in the second half it was Blyth who scored again 15 minutes before the end when Sean McRoberts found Zak Atkinson with a excellent ball who finished well.

The result means Hebburn Town have been replaced by Durham City in the top ten and as a result miss out on a guaranteed FA Cup place.

Hebburn end their season on Wednesday night with a friendly match against Sunderland U23s at Hebburn Social Club in an 18.30 kick off.
