A comfortable 4-0 victory away to Foundation of Light rivals Shildon meant Sunderland went top of the Midlands/North Division on Friday night.
Goals from Craig Ellison, Alex Ramshaw and captain Aaron Duell put the game beyond Shildon FC FOL’s grasp with Craig Muter coming off the bench to add one more.
The result means Shildon remain in fifth place, eight points behind new league leaders Sunderland FOL.
A minute’s silence was observed before kickoff in memory of those who suffered in the Chapecoense tragedy.
Shildon AFC’s Dean Street witnessed a crowd of 230 people after the fixture was moved to Friday evening.
Ellison slotted past the keeper in the 34th minute after capitalising on a superb ball from Ramshaw, who grabbed a goal himself from distance in the first minute of the second half.
A trademark freekick from captain Duell saw the visitors go three-up before substitute Muter volleyed home to finish the game off in the final minute.
