University of Sunderland men’s 3rds are six points adrift from safety in the BUCS league, but manager Daniel Kendal insists that his team are getting better each week.

The Wearsiders suffered their fifth defeat of the campaign last Wednesday following their narrow 1-0 defeat against Leeds Arts.

Despite losing all of their opening matches, Kendal claims he’s seeing improvements from his team.

“We have been getting better each week and there is progress in every performance,” said the manager.

“Right now, I’m looking at each game on a weekly basis, it’s a tough season and we’ve had to start from scratch. It has not gone as planned so far, but at the minute I’m focusing on performances not results.”

Sunderland will go in search of their first points of the season next week when they face York St John, and Kendal is optimistic ahead of the match.

“Last week we played well for 90 minutes. We have been working hard in training and as a result getting more positives from each fixture.

“We are confident we can get a result next week.”
