UOS Netball 2nds against York St John 3rds.

The University of Sunderland Netball 2nds were again beaten on Wednesday afternoon, but did show promise against York St John 3rds on home soil.

As the match got underway, Sunderland were more than holding their own in the first quarter and on another day could have quite easily been in front if not for some bad luck when trying to make space to shoot when they were attacking the York end.

The 2nd quarter, however, did see York St John begin to show their quality when attacking and the team in light blue quickly racked up a number of points on the board.

Some quick passing and fantastic counter attacking from the visitors was something in particular that Sunderland simply couldn’t cope with at times and the hosts went in trailing 7-34 at half time.

Despite a triple substitution at half time from Sunderland, York St John continued where they left off at the beginning of the third quarter, again often hitting Sunderland on the break after their attacks broke down and punishing them in decisive fashion, with York taking a commanding 7-42 lead going into the final part of the match.

With the game all but over, Sunderland did manage to get up the pitch and were able to score three points throughout the last quarter with the match eventually finishing 10-60.

The result leaves Sunderland still bottom of the table going into another home fixture next week, this time against York St John 4ths who currently lie third in the league table.
