The junior Quinto Do Lago Golf Championship this year included Tyneside’s James Wilson and County Durham’s Jessica Hall.

Wilson found himself with a share of the overnight lead, but shot a final round 74 to miss out on victory by one.

Meanwhile, Jessica Hall was nicely placed after 18 holes, but with a second round 83 she was out of contention with some low scoring from the leaders.

However, to even qualify for this tournament is an achievement, the North East pair battled all season to qualify. Wilson won the Durham County Boys Championship at his home course.

Hall on the other hand, hit a 67 and 71 to qualify and win her Girls County Championship, as well as finihing 3rd in the Irish Girls Championship.

Wilson was in the driving seat for the majority of the tournament but made a triple bogey on the 15th of his final nine, shooting him down the leaderboard.

Wilson then bounced back with a birdie on 16 but it wasn’ enough to beat 14 year old Max Hopkins.

Previous winners of this tournament include Justin Rose and Mathew Fitzpatrick, so there is more to come from these two individuals.
