Chris Dobey faces an uphill battle to progress in the PDC World Darts Championship after drawing 16-time champion Phil Taylor in the first round.

The world number-38 makes his second consecutive appearance at the year ending tournament, and was handed a tough first round draw.

Dobey will face sixth seed Taylor in his last competition before the former world number one retires from the sport.

Dobey said: “This will be a fantastic opportunity for myself to play Phil in his last ever competition before retiring.

“My darts have been going nicely, so hopefully come the start of the World Championships I can play well.”

The PDC World Darts Championship gets underway on December 14 at the Alexandra Palace in London.
