Seaham Red Star conceded in added time against Newton Aycliffe to be denied all three points in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.
Craig Lynch scored the opener 55 minutes in but it was cancelled out by Aycliffe substitute Alan Harrison in the 93rd minute.
After this result both clubs stay in the same positions in the Northern League – Red Star remain 10th and Newton Aycliffe are still ninth.
The game as expected was even. The Star had the better of the chances in the opening stages, especially through Lynch who carved out several chances to score in the first 20 minutes.
Aycliffe were forced into being a counter attacking team by Red Star and looked dangerous when doing so. After every Seaham attack the hosts looked to play their forwards in behind on the counter. Doing this nearly payed of on the brink of half time as they hit the post.
The first real chance of the second half turned out to be the first goal when Robbie Bird broke down the left wing and found Lynch in a bit of space on the edge of the area. The former Sunderland man took a touch then fired the ball past Phillip Pentony making it 1-0 to Seaham after 55 minutes.
Lynch was a constant threat throughout the game and he nearly added a second for The Star 10 minutes after his opener. The striker took on three of the hosts defenders and chipped the ball over Pentony only to see it roll agonisingly wide.
The referee was forced to add on five minutes of stoppage time after several injuries and arguments slowed the game down. And Aycliffe equalised in the third minute of the five through substitute Harrison, who was unmarked at the back post after a cross was whipped in and could finish easily.
Amazingly, both teams still had chances to score after the equaliser but neither side managed to grab a last-gasp goal. Seaham next play Shildon away on Saturday in their final away game of the season.
