South Shields FC have confirmed their planned victory parade has been postponed following the Manchester attack.

The Mariners had been working with South Tyneside Council to organise a homecoming celebration for their FA Vase trophy win at Wembley on Sunday.

However, in a statement released by the club, South Shields FC said: “Following the tragic events in Manchester this week, now would not be the time for such a celebratory event.

“It has instead been postponed with a view to being arranged at a later date.”

On behalf of South Shields FC and South Tyneside council, a spokesman said: “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of the victims of this atrocity.”
