Sunderland U21s boss Robbie Stockdale has heaped praise on Duncan Watmore after the winger’s two-goal haul at Fulham on Friday.
Watmore’s brace sealed a 2-0 victory at Craven Cottage for the young Black Cats and Stockdale was impressed with his recent form.
“The team performed from one to eleven and Duncan Watmore was there to finish two fantastic goals,” he said.
“The first started with a volleyed pass from Jordan Pickford – we only touched it three times but it was so in control that any team at any level would be pleased to score it – and the second was a well-worked short corner which Duncan finished at the near post.”
He added: “It was two different goals but two fantastic ones, and it is always pleasing to see the things you practice in training come off.”
The victory over Fulham was his side’s second game in five days and Stockdale was delighted at the performances of his players.
“I was pleased with the results and the performances,” Stockdale said after Friday’s game.
“We were very good against Fulham, especially in the second period when we had to adapt tactically due to the conditions and the amount of travel involved, but we ticked every box on Friday in terms of the result and the performance.
“We had two long trips in the space of five days and played a large part of the first with ten men, so to come away with four points, two clean sheets and two fantastic performances is very pleasing.”
