The University of Sunderland’s Men’s Volleyball 1st’s have found out their opposition for the next round of the Northern Conference Cup.

After last week’s 3-0 victory over Durham 2nd’s, Sunderland will now face Manchester Metropolitan 2nd’s in the third round of the competition in February.

Sunderland are in good form after three consecutive wins in all competitions, but are highly unlikely to win promotion in their division. The cup is the side’s only realistic chance of winning silverware this year.

Both Sunderland’s president, Geno Spasov, and his players have already stated their desire to go on and win the cup, but they face a huge challenge in their next round.

Manchester Metropolitan 2nd’s currently sit top of the Northern 2A league, one division higher than Sunderland, with a 100% record in all competitions so far.

On top of that, Manchester are yet to even drop a set this season.

They will most certainly end the year with promotion, but that could work in Sunderland’s favour. The cup may not be Manchester’s priority, as it is for Spasov’s side.

Sunderland will have home advantage on their side, and will face Manchester at CitySpace on February 14, 2018.

Hopefully, Valentine’s Day will be a good omen for Sunderland, and they can keep their cup love-in running into the next round.
