Sunderland’s futsal teams compete in the national BUCS league on weekends.

University of Sunderland men’s futsal teams will compete in the first of three round robin tournaments to be played throughout the year on Saturday.

The tournament will see the Sunderland’s 1st and 2nd teams compete against the Durham 3rds, York 2nds and York St John 2nds team.

With a home advantage, both Sunderland sides will be looking to get some wins on the board and make a name for themselves in the tournament.

Speaking about Saturday’s tournament, Sunderland team captain and vice president Lewis McKay said: “I’m very excited for the tournament and to see how the lads perform.”

One of Mckay’s main aims for the tournament is not just winning but also for the team to progress defensively and establish a style of play.

“A main aim is to sort out positions and figure out the best way for the team to play in terms of defence and pressure on the ball,” he said.

While Mckay is confident of getting results, he reiterated he is focussed on how the team work together.

The tournament will be played at City Space on Saturday 19 November from 12.30pm.
