The University of Sunderland men’s tennis 1st team will attempt to record their first win of the season when they travel to York on Wednesday afternoon.
Sunderland suffered a narrow 4-2 defeat in last week’s opener at home to Hull 1sts, after Phil Rudd and Paddy Horne lost a decisive doubles rubber 10-8 in a match tie-break.
Nevertheless, Sunderland will be optimistic ahead of tomorrow’s clash against a York 2nds side who they beat twice last season.
The visitors will be at full strength once again, with Konstantinos Axelos, Andrew Waddell, Horne and Rudd making up the four-man team.
York won their opening match of the campaign in the men’s Northern 4B League, winning by four matches to two away at Teesside.
Even so, Sunderland beat York 6-0 and 5-1 when the sides met last year.
Meanwhile Sunderland’s 2nd team will also hope to record their first win of the campaign when they host the University of Hull men’s 2nd team at the Puma Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Sunderland 2nds were beaten 6-0 by York St John University in their opening match last week.
