Despite getting the game’s opening try, the University of Sunderland women’s first team were unable to hold on to their lead against the University of York and lost a very closely contested game 19-15 on Wednesday.
Team president Shannon Mossop felt the team deserved to get the win, saying: “The girls worked very hard and put the effort in, so yeah I think we did deserve to win the game.
“We had a few girls out with injury which made it hard for us” stated the team president.”
Sunderland managed to score tries at the beginning and end of the game but were unable to prevent York from taking the spoils.
Sunderland must now put this game behind them and focus on bouncing back with a win in their game next Wednesday against the University of Hull.
