World Cup winning rugby player Tamara Taylor has helped host “pitch up and play” at Sunderland RFC.
Girls and women attended Ashbrooke Sports Club, the clubs’ training and home ground in Sunderland, to try out rugby.
Taylor, who’s a World Cup winner with the England rugby team, said on Twitter:

Chairman of Sunderland RFC and coach of the woman’s team Paul Geehan said: “Tamara is a true rugby player who gives so much back to the game.
“She will always promote the women’s and girl’s game and is a player to look up to. The world cup winner has always been approachable and is great at her job.
“Her coaching methods are inspirational and I feel very lucky and privileged to call her a friend.”
As a result of the event numbers have been boosted for the club.
“The pitch up and play has brought u13 and u15 girls to the club, Mr Geehan added.
All of Sunderland RFC’s female teams train at Ashbrooke Sports Club. The under 13’s and under 15’s train on a Tuesday between 6:30pm and 7:30pm, while the under 18’s train on a Thursday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
The over 18’s train on a Tuesday and Thursday between 6:30pm and 8pm.
