Team Sunderland’s basketballers will be hoping to pick up a win before the winter break as they face Calderdale Explorers on Saturday.
Sunderland currently sit 2nd in the league table behind table toppers Manchester Giants III, who are unbeaten his season.
Brian Calder’s men have been in excellent form in recent weeks, winning four out of their last five games. Big wins against Barrow Thorns and Stockport Falcons have cemented Sunderland as one of the favourites for promotion in May.
Sunderland are full of confidence heading into Saturday’s game after getting back to winning ways against Stockport Falcons in a 85-67 win last Saturday. The victory would have came as a big relief having suffered their 2nd defeat to their promotion rivals Manchester earlier in the month.
Calderdale have had a mixed set of results so far this season – back-to-back defeats in December left the Explorers perilously close to the bottom of the table. However a superb 104-74 victory against rock bottom Sefton Stars III will give them confidence going into the game at the weekend.
A win for Team Sunderland could send them top of the league if Manchester Giants III don’t beat Kingston Panthers, who beat Sunderland earlier in the season, on Saturday.
