The Sunderland City Predators have made a solid start to the campaign despite a 3-1 defeat away to Sheffield 2 on Saturday in the Men’s Division 2 North.
Sheffield dominated the opening exchanges, taking the first set, but Sunderland improved in the second.
They were rewarded for their perseverance and claimed the third set, but were unable to capitalise as Sheffield clinched the win.
The hosts were quick out of the blocks and powered their way to a 25-11 first set victory.
The Predators improved in the second set, but narrowly missed out 22-25.
They did not give up and got back into it, winning the third set 27-25, but ultimately fell short, Sheffield wrapping up the match by taking the fourth set 25-19.
The loss will come as a huge disappointment after back to back wins in the league and cup over Nottingham Rockets 1 and Warrington Wolves respectively.
It is the Wearsiders’ second league defeat of the season having previousy lost out to Polska Przychondnia Intervolley Manchester, but with only three games played there is plenty of time to recapture the form that saw them finish third last year.
Currently sitting fifth in the table, Team Sunderland will be hoping to bounce back in their next match at home to Melton Lions on November 5.
