Team Sunderland’s basketballers have only lost once this season.

Team Sunderland head coach Brian Calder has praised his teams tenacity as they prepare to face Barrow Thorns on Sunday.

Calder was speaking after Sunderland saw out a 91-71 victory over Kendal Warriors on Saturday, a win that put them third in the Division Four Men with four wins out of five.

“Thats one thing I am enjoying at the moment – the team’s tenacity and focus,” he said.

“Kendal are an experienced team with a group of guys who love to play basketball. Until they started to tire – it was then when we started to pull away.”

Sunderland started well in the match, racking up 55 points before half time. Kendal were never out of the game but couldn’t close the gap Sunderland gained in the first two quarters.

The win lifted them to third place and level on points at the top with Kingston Panthers, Manchester Giants and Tameside.

Team Sunderland travel to the Hoops Basketball Centre to face Barrow Thorns on Sunday 20 November, with their opponents having won just once in five attempts this season.
