Thomas Patrick Ward put on a boxing clinic as he soundly outpointed Sean Davis at the Metro Radio arena in Newcastle to defend his British title.

Durham’s Ward extended his perfect unbeated record to 22-0(2) with relative ease against Birmingham’s Sean Davis, 13-2, whose only previous defeat was against Gamal Yafai.

Davis looked to apply pressure from the offset but Ward moved well and picked his counters perfectly as he showed why he hasn’t tasted defeat so far in his pro career.

Ward – who won the belt earlier in the year by outpointing Jazza Dickens – will now look to defend the belt at least twice more as he seeks to win it outright.

The result of the bout was rarely in doubt as Ward used his superior boxing technique to out maneuver Davis.

Davis did look to try and force the pace and try and unsettle the technically better Ward, but this tactic didn’t faze Ward as he continued to glide around the ring landing slick counters.

Both fighters were well supported at ringside, but Ward’s supporters no doubt went home the happier as he won a deserved unanimous decision.
