The University of Sunderland men’s Volleyball team lost to league leaders York in straight sets on Wednesday.
With positives coming from the difficult fixture, old habits crept through and cost the home side points.
Periods of scrappy play and poor positioning were Sunderland’s biggest downfall.
Going into the match, Sunderland were under little pressure considering the difficulty of the opposition. However, with several weeks training under their belt there was an optimistic atmosphere.
Captain Mark Whitelaw was critical of both the performance of the tam and himself.
“As a team some of us didn’t play our best, including myself which didn’t help at all,” said Whitelaw.
“There were problems with peoples positioning on court and our receiving was scrappy.”
The team will be training hard in the coming weeks and considering their next match isn’t until December 2, they will be hoping that the issues raised in this week’s game will be resolved in time.
With only one win all season, the side will be looking to improve sooner rather than later.
