Snowsports - EdinburghSportsByte’s Christabel Howdon-Bancroft spoke to University of Sunderland Snow Sports Social Secretary Thomas Ward about his excitement for the upcoming tour to Alpe d’Huez, and how a trip to Andorra sparked his love for Skiing.

Briefly explain what you do for USSC.

As the social secretary it’s my job, alongside Freya [King] to organise all the social events we do; nights out, quiz nights even bowling events.

I also help the rest of committee organise bigger events such as BUDS, a weekend in Edinburgh, and our tour to the Alps at Easter time.

First experience snowboarding or skiing?

I went to Andorra when I was 12 with my parents and loved skiing ever since then.

Best place you have been snowboarding/skiing?

Best place snow wise was probably Austria with my school back when I lived in Belgium, but the most fun place I’ve been was probably the USSC tour last year to Avoriaz

Place you want to go most of all?

I really want to go to VT, apparently the nightlife is amazing.

Best thing about USSC?

All the nights out, the stories in the morning after nights out and tour!

First accident?

I’ve actually never hurt myself skiing, fingers crossed, touch wood and all that.

Dry slope or mountains?

Mountains obviously!

Sum up the USSC socials in three words?

King of Belgium

Best place you’ve been on tour and why?

I’ve only been to one tour so far and that was Avoriaz, I’m hoping Alpe d’Huez this year will be even better!
