The Stars

It’s that time of year again and the Sunderland Stars Cheerleading squad are at their best and  hoping to secure a victory for Sunderland in the 2013 Tees Wear Varsity competition.

The Sunderland Stars have won the last three encounters at Varsity and President Kale Crane said the team have been performing more advanced routines as they look for four in a row.

He said: “Although I hope for the best, we are looking to have a good time, get experience for the future and perform the routines as perfectly as we can.”

The Easter break has made training difficult for the team. Most of the cheerleaders don’t live near to Sunderland and according to Crane they need at least 24 members of the team to practice the routine. They haven’t had any practice sessions over the break.

“This is obviously a disadvantage, but does mean that people have had a break and will hopefully come back with high spirits and the willingness to do well,” Crane said, who will be competing in his third Varsity competition.

Teesside were the overall winners last year and Crane is hoping that Sunderland will take the victory again this year.
