A close fought battle at the top of the table ended with the Sunderland City Predators men’s volleyball team finishing the season just two points behind top spot.
After beating eventually table toppers Northumbria/Middlesbrough Academy in their second game of the season, the Predators went on an incredible eight game winning streak.
This included victories over not only the eventual champions, but the other team who would finish above the Predators in the table, Sheffield 2. Both results were convincing 3-1 victories for the Wearsiders.
The winning streak would come to an end in the reverse fixture against Northumbria/Middlesbrough Academy who showed their class and status as champions elect with a resounding 3-0 win over the Predators.
This defeat did not knock the Sunderland side’s confidence though as they went on to win five of their last six games of the season.
At the end of a strong final run of games Sunderland City Predators finished the season on a well earned 40 points from 16 games. Of these 16 games they managed an impressive 12 wins and suffered only four defeats.
Part of this strong points haul was down to the Predators convincing defensive record. The Wearsiders boasted the second best points against in the league, second only to the champions.
Add to this a healthy amount of points scored and that gives the Predators the second best points difference of the season, again beaten out only by the league winners.
Third was the finishing spot for the Sunderland City Predators this season with Sheffield 2 taking second place and Northumbria/Middlesbrough Academy topping the table, both just two points ahead of the Predators.
