South Shields Reserves moved up to 11th in the Wearside League with a 3-2 win over former Northern League side Stokesley SC.

Jordan Reed, Logan Powell and Graham Stephenson all found the net for the Mariners to cancel out Ryan Rivis’ double for the visitors.

Leepaul Scroggins’ men have now won three on the bounce, but the Shields reserve boss wasn’t overly impressed by the performance.

He said: “We were very pleased to win the three points, which is the most important thing, but overall very disappointed with how we played and defended at times.

“We had some excellent chances to put the game to bed but unfortunately we couldn’t take our chances.”

The Mariners host fourth-bottom Coxhoe Athletic on Wednesday.

Boldon CA needed penalties to progress to the semi-finals of the Total Sport Alan Hood Charity Cup at the expense of Sunderland West End.

West End had taken the lead as striker Anth Ross scored after a quarter of an hour.

However, Boldon responded and levelled on the half-hour mark, and neither side could find a winner.

Straight to spot-kicks it went and Boldon held their nerve to take a 7-6 victory and set up a last four clash with either Hebburn Town Reserves, Richmond Town and Hartlepool.

Silksworth CW were not in action at the weekend but return when they host Sunderland West End on Wednesday.
