University of Sunderland women’s volleyball team sit top of the table with four wins from four and 1sts coach Geno Spasov claims he is “aiming for the title” ahead of the winter break.

Sunderland won their latest game 3-0 away at Durham 3rds and that result moved them joint top with their opponents. However, the Wearsiders have two games in hand over them and Spasov is delighted with their start to the season.

He said: “We are very happy with how the season has gone so far, I think the girls have been fantastic throughout games and practices.

“Everyone wants to improve and help the team and everyone is dedicated in doing what they are supposed to do.”

Spasov’s side return to action in 2017 to face sixth placed Bradford 1sts on January 25 and the coach wants the team to keep up their hard work and maintain their unbeaten streak.

“Because of our attitude we are able to up our game in terms of consistency and professionalism,” said the manager.

“We still have tough games ahead of us but we are aiming for the title.”
