Billingham Synthonia 0-0 Seaham Red Star

Billingham Synthonia and Seaham Red Star shared the points in what was a goalless draw at Norton Sports Ground, just a week after the two sides were involved in a ten-goal thriller.

Seaham looked the more likely of the two sides to break the deadlock but were ultimately thwarted by an impressive James Dawson, who made several good saves throughout.

Thomas Scott came closest when he missed a penalty in the 69th minute for the visitors, meanwhile, Robbie Bird had an effort cleared off the line.

Seaham came into this game with a depleted squad, missing key strikers Ash Davis and Liam McBryde along with wingers Lee Hetherington and Nicholas Kane.

This meant Right-back Callum Munro played up-front and youth-team winger Alex Ramshaw stepped up to the starting 11.

Scott came close for Seaham early on with a powerful shot forcing Dawson into a great save to his right six minutes in.

Ten minutes later, Billingham had their best chance of the game, Jordan Jewson’s free-kick – bouncing off the crossbar before its clearance.

Chances were few and far between for much of the first half, but the hosts nearly took the lead when David Hillerby’s promising effort went just over the bar before the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Bird had a massive chance for Seaham.

The winger cut through from the left and his lob over the keeper was cleared off the line by Jamie Tunstall.

The visitors continued to threaten – Munro’s strike in the 67th minute just missed the target following a deflection.

Two minutes later, the visitors were awarded a penalty as Munro was brought down by Tunstall in the box but Scott’s poor strike didn’t trouble Dawson – who saved to his right.

Both sides looked to push for a winner in the closing moments of the game but neither side broke the deadlock.

Ben Jackson had a spectacular effort for the hosts pushed just wide by Jordan Harkess in the 86th minute.

At the other end, Scott had a shot directly at Dawson and substitute Alex Parkshaw almost put away a rebound just moments from time but the ball was retrieved by the keeper just in time.

Speaking after the game Paul Johnston said: “I can’t really ask much more of the lads other than it going in the net, but we did have a lot of chances and their keeper has made a lot of saves.

“It just hasn’t gone in.”

The result sees winless Billingham remaining bottom of the Northern League table whilst Seaham remain ninth.
