The Black Cats travel to the Pirelli Stadium this weekend in search of a return to winning ways.

Jack Ross and his Sunderland side have hit a bit of brick wall recently as they have drawn their last three games in all competitions but they have a chance to reaffirm their credentials as title contenders with a victory this weekend against Burton Albion.

The Brewers have stuttered on their return to League One and find themselves in 17th place with just two victories from their seven games.

Worse for Nigel Clough is the number of injuries that they have heading into this fixture, particularly in net where they are down to the bare bones.

Sunderland did manage to win last season at Burton in one of the few high points of their season and a repeat victory this time around would be more than welcome.

Team news

Aiden McGeady is nearing a return to the Sunderland first team after he returned to full training this week and he could earn a place on the bench this weekend.

Jack Baldwin, Denver Hume, and Dylan McGeouch are all injury concerns heading into the game with Ross confirming that they have been carrying niggles this past week.

Other than that, the only other concern for the Black Cats is Duncan Watmore who is still recovering from a long-term injury.

Max Power is still suspended.

Prediction: Burton Albion 1-2 Sunderland

Eight games unbeaten would signify a great start and three straight away wins would be unchartered territory for Sunderland over the last decade.

Ross will know his side need to win games again after drawing their previous three, all at home.

Burton’s injuries make them ripe for the picking and Sunderland will have enough quality to take all three points.
