Darlington RA succumbed to another defeat as they felt the absence of star striker, Christopher Tarn.

Despite Tarn’s absence, RA got off to the perfect start as they took the lead with three minutes on the clock. Joshua McLay getting latched on the end of Luke Wilson’s cross to end an entertaining move. Silksworth’s 24th minute equaliser was arguably helped by the strong wind on their backs in the first half which caught RA’s high defensive line out.

The Wearsiders then took the lead just before half time by taking their opponents offguard with a quick free kick. In the closing stages of added time, Silksworth put the game beyond doubt and their place in the second round of the DCFA Trophy with a goal scored thanks to a break from RA’s desperate attempts to equalise late on.

The big team news for Darlington RA was that Christopher Tarn was absent which meant that the job of goalscoring was passed on to Luke Wilson who had a decent game by providing the assist for their only goal.

In a game that was heavily influenced by the difficult playing conditions, once Silksworth grew into the game, they were on top for much of the game by creating good chances regularly and defended well.

In a nearly eventless second half, Darlington RA, despite being behind, only managed to force one save out of the Silksworth goalkeeper with a tame shot from Luke Wilson after 80 minutes.

Darlington RA’s next match sees them host Durham City Reserves at home in the TWR Shipowners Charity Cup. They will go into the match having only won two of their last eight games in all competitions.
