Simon Mignolet, Sunderland goalkeeper

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day, you gave it away. This year to save me from tears I’ll give it to Simon Mignolet.

I am far too proud of that even though it isn’t any good in the slightest but nevertheless, we’re back with the Sunderland advent calendar and as you can already tell, today we’re looking at a brilliant Belgian.

Simon Mignolet

Duration at SAFC: 2010-2013

Signed From: Sint-Truiden (£2 million)

Sold to: Liverpool (£9 million)

Appearances: 101

Clean Sheets: 33

Key Moment: In only his second Black Cats game he was named man of the match in a 1-0 win over Manchester City pulling off a fine string of saves.

Interesting Fact: The Belgian stopper earned his first national team call up due to his performances between the sticks at Sunderland

Where is he now? Mignolet is currently back up goalkeeper at Liverpool behind Allisson who the Reds signed from Roma in the summer. The former Black Cat is struggling to get a look in and may soon move away from Anfield.
