Easington could leapfrog Whickham on Saturday.

Easington Colliery hosts Whickham on Saturday afternoon as the Colliers look to mount a top eight finish.

The Green Army currently sit ninth in Northern League Division Two, two places and two points behind Whickham.

Manager Paul Frame was pleased with his side’s 3-0 win over Ryton & Crawcrook Albion last week and is hoping the Colliers can build on the result.

“It was pleasing to see us get a comfortable win last week,” said Frame.

“We haven’t had many games in the past couple of months which we have won easy but Saturday was one of them days.”

Goals from David Paul, Jack Pounder and Michael Bulmer secured the Colliers the three points against Ryton and Frame was pleased with the variety of scorers.

“It’s great to see three of our forwards all on the scoresheet. Jack (Pounder) and Busta (David Paul) have both done well since signing and Chip (Michael Bulmer) is now used to the Northern League. They’re all goalscorers and I expect them to prove troublesome for Whickham.”

The Colliers claimed a goalless draw in a hard-fought game at Whickham earlier in the season and Frame knows his side are in for a tough game.

“Whickham are a strong, physical side and we know that we need to match them in every department. We had a tough game at their place earlier in the season but I believe we have the quality to claim the three points.”

Kick-off at the Welfare Park on Saturday afternoon is at 15:00.
