Elliot Slessor of Gateshead

Gateshead’s Elliot Slessor will come up against Rhys Clark on Tuesday evening in the Scottish open opening round, as he aims to follow up his Northern Ireland open success.

Slessor managed to reach the semi-finals of the Northern Ireland open in early November, defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan along the way, and believes this will give him the confidence to go far in the tournament.

“I got to the semis and just sadly didn’t perform anywhere near what I could have which was a shame but I was obviously really happy and this hopefully will give me confidence.”

The Gateshead man will be aiming for a positive tournament, as he looks to kickstart his career, and has been backed by many professionals to have the potential to go far.

Currently at a career high ranking of 72nd in the world, Slessor will want to finish the year in style, as he has high hopes for next year, aiming to be in the top 64.

“Hopefully I can get in the top 64 and try win as many matches as possible”

Slessor and Clark met previously earlier in the year, with Clark emerging victorious, and Slessor will be out to make amends.

“He beat me last time we played, so hopefully I’ll be looking forward to some revenge” Slessor said.

Clark, currently ranked one hundred and twenty fifth will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing Northern Ireland tour defeat at the hands of Matthew Selt.

Slessor was full of praise for his Scottish opponent, stating: “I’ve known Rhys for a lot of years, he’s a good player”

The match will be available to watch on Eurosport online and on television.
