Life in League One kicks off on Saturday at home to Charlton Athletic for Sunderland and with plenty of new faces expected to be on show we have a look at the signings The Blacks Cats have made during the transfer window.

Notable Ins

Jon McLaughlin

The goalkeeper joined Sunderland early in the summer from Hearts as the Black Cats looked to put last season’s goalkeeper woes behind them. McLaughlin has been very impressive between the sticks during pre-season and looks a shrewd purchase by Jack Ross.

Alim Ozturk

The former Turkey under 21 international is an imposing figure at centre-back and joins Sunderland on a free transfer after leaving Turkish side Boluspor. Formerly of Hearts Ozturk will be looking to kick start his career on Wearside.

Chris Maguire

The versatile forward has good pedigree in League One having accumulated double figures for goals and assists during the 2016-17 season with Oxford United. Had a difficult season last time out with Bury but Ross will be hoping Maguire, capped twice by Scotland, can recapture his Oxford form.

Tom Flanagan

The Northern Ireland international joined Sunderland from Burton Albion following their drop into League One. Flanagan can play anywhere along the back four and this versatility will be vital during a long season.

Dylan McGeouch

McGeouch joins Sunderland on a free transfer after his contract with Hibernian expired. The 25-year-old central midfielder is quite the coup for the Black Cats having been voted Hibernian’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

Reece James

The left-back has experience of getting promoted from League One having featured 22 times for last season’s Champions Wigan Athletic. A product of the Manchester United academy James will be hoping to contribute to a second consecutive promotion.

Glenn Loovens

The vastly experience centre-back joins on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday where he spent a lot of time as captain. Ross will be hoping Loovens can fill the leadership void created by the departure of numerous experienced characters as well as bring quality to the central defensive position.

Jerome Sinclair

Sinclair joins Sunderland on loan from Watford and plenty is expected of the forward as he looks to properly launch his career having struggled to secure a regular spot at Vicarage Road following his arrival in 2016. Formerly of Liverpool, Sinclair brings pace and versatility to the front line.

Jack Baldwin

Another player with great leadership qualities, Baldwin joins from Peterborough where he was their club captain. The 25-year-old centre back has proven quality at League One level and with his best years still to come Baldwin could prove to be a superb signing for Sunderland.

Luke O’Nien

The 23-year-old arrives at Sunderland after a hugely impressive campaign with Wycombe Wanderers. The tenacious central midfielder brings a combination of energy and technical quality to the role and looks an exciting prospect for the Black Cats.
