Sunderland Men’s Football 2nds will face Teesside in their Varsity fixture tomorrow, and boss Matty Lions claims his side are relishing the opportunity.

The Wearsiders secured their first win of the season against Teesside following a 2-1 victory in October, and they’ll be looking to earn the bragging rights once again with another victory at Varsity.

“I’m confident we can win,” said the Sunderland 2nds boss.

“We’ve beat them before this season, and we’ll be going for the win here once again.

“I’m expecting everything off my players. I want them to play to my instructions and make the most of it because for some players it’s their last Varsity fixture.”

Teesside 2nds finished one point off top spot in the BUCS Football Northern 5B league and 14 points ahead of Sunderland.

Despite their poor league form this campaign, Lyons is hopeful that he’ll be able to field a strong team tomorrow.

“I’ve got a good set of players available tomorrow and I am just hoping they all give 100 per cent. There is a positive feeling within the squad.”

Kick-off against Teesside 2nds is 2pm at Silksworth Sports Complex.
