Darlington RA are through to the second round of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup after two goals from Christopher Tarn helped them to victory over Coxhoe Athletic.

Darlington RA started out the better of the two teams and duly opened the scoring nine minutes in with leading goalscorer and captain, Christopher Tarn tapping from close range on the rebound after Coxhoe goalkeeper, Harry Dowding failed to hold on to the initial shot.

With the exception of an unsuccessful penalty appeal, Coxhoe never threatened in the first half and were punished when Tarn scored his 12th of the season with a dink over the goalkeeper after Myles Willis’ attempt header back to his goalkeeper fell short, allowing Tarn to capitalize.

The opening 20 minutes of the second half were hardly strenuous but suddenly burst into life after half time substitute, Craig Moody scored for Coxhoe to offer some hope for the visitors. Coxhoe became invigorated from that point and created chances but failed to convert any.

This win gives Darlington RA consecutive victories for the first time in five weeks after being on a difficult run of form since then. The next match for the Railwaymen will come at Brinkburn Road against Hartlepool FC in the Durham Challenge Cup first round.
