Sunderland eliminated from the SSE Womens FA Cup by Fylde after failing to gain a foothold in a game with many chances.

Despite a bright start from the Sunderland side it was Fylde to open the scoring after captain Danielle Young finds the top corner with a free kick from over 20 yards out.

Sunderland had an excellent chance to get back in the game after a free kick on the wide left is delivered into the box finding Sunderland defender Louise Griffiths with a free header who can’t direct it goalwards.

Sunderland once again came very close to equalizing after midfielder Emily Hutchinson capitalises on a ball over the top before forcing the Fylde goalkeeper into making a good double save.

Fylde go on to extend their lead after a shot forces the Sunderland goalkeeper into making a save but Fylde striker Sophie Charlton is there on the rebound to tap it into the back of the net.

It was a bright start to the second half for Sunderland as captain Keira Ramshaw hits the post from a narrow-angle in the opening minutes.

Finally rewarded after an array of chances the home side grab one back courtesy of substitute Katie Barker who beats a player on the left before producing a cross turned shot in which the Fylde goalkeeper fails to deal with.

Sunderland piled on the pressure looking to level the game and came very close when a failed clearance from a corner finds a Sunderland player in the box who fires it goalward to only be denied by a Fylde player on the line.

Fylde after weathering the late pressure Sunderland applied after grabbing a goal were able to extend their lead to two goals once again after midfielder Emily Hollinshead cuts inside and rifles it into the bottom corner.

Sunderland continued to chase the game and came close to providing a dramatic last couple of minutes but were denied by the woodwork from a Keira Ramshaw effort.

An excellent away performance saw Fylde Ladies progress to the next round of the cup as Sunderland will rue their many missed opportunities.
