An incredible four tries from Chichi Ihejieto were enough for Team Sunderland to overpower Sheffield in a comfortable win at Houghton Rugby Club.

Ihejieto grabbed her first two within the first 15 minutes, with Vicky Murphy adding a third just before the break after Sheffield had reduced the deficit.

Sheffield again got within five points early in the second half, only for Ihejieto to get another two converted tries to put Sunderland out of sight. Sheffield got another two before the end only for Sunderland’s Jess Avery to finish off the scoring, converting her own try two minutes before the final whistle.

Team Sunderland went into the game looking to get their first win of the season, after losing their opening game away at the same opponents, and they certainly started the brighter of the two teams.

From the kick off Sunderland spent much of the opening stages camped deep in the Sheffield half and after nine minutes Ihejieto went over as the opposition defence finally caved in.

Ihejieto got her second five minutes later in a display of remarkable pace and power, breaking through a tackle at halfway she ran the remainder of the field, sidestepping the opposition full back before being brought down just before the line. The Sheffield defence tried to reorganise them selves but in a matter of moments she then broke their resistance to score.

Sheffield nearly responded a minute later on the break as their number 10 ran the length of the field, only to be stopped by the impressive Murphy who hauled her back agonisingly close to the line. Sheffield did manage to get themselves a try a few minutes later but Murphy scored a try of her own to ensure a 15-5 lead at half time.

After the break, Sheffield started well and scored within two minutes to reduce the deficit to five points, only for Ihejieto to take things into her own hands five minutes later.

Again she broke through the Sheffield defence 30 metres out to score, then in echoes of her first half try, broke through yet another tackle on halfway, this time running through the posts to get her fourth try. Avery converted both of these to take the score to an unassailable 29-10 lead.

Sheffield did their best to respond with two unconverted tries, but Avery completed the scoring just before the end to complete a comfortable victory for Team Sunderland.
