Spoils were shared in an enticing game of badminton between University of Sunderland Mens 1sts and University of Durham Mens 3rds as it ended all square at 4-4 after eight rounds of singles and doubles.

In the Men’s Singles, Zola Tang reigned supreme with victories in both his games as he first defeated Durham’s Vaibhav Mahajan 17-21, 21-15, 22-20, before a 21-15, 21-11 win over Jason Tsang. However, team captain Michael Maw had no such luck as he was beaten in both games.

Maw went down 17-21, 11-21 to Tsang and then 8-21, 11-21 to Mahajan in what was an off day for the Sunderland skipper.

In the Men’s Doubles, Tammy and Andrew of Durham combined to beat Nicholas Cheu and Jeberson 23-21, 19-21, 21-15. However, the pair were beaten by Yi Liang and Gerald Kennedy in the next game. The latter won 17-21, 21-5, 21-11.

Liang and Kennedy started off on a losing note though, going down 25-27, 17-21 in the first game to Josh and Tum, but the Durham pair found themselves on the losing end in the second game to Cheu and Jeberson 21-18, 21-17 in a topsy-turvy set of encounters.
