South Shields Academy winger Will McCamley looks set to join Premier League side Huddersfield Town on trial.

The trial will provide the youngster an opportunity to showcase his talents before the club decides whether to select him as part of their academy.

The Shields winger was instrumental in the Mariners’ progression to the second round of the FA Youth Cup, and has featured regularly in the league under Lee Picton and Graham Fenton.

McCamley will likely join up with the U17’s side who currently sit bottom of the EFL Youth Alliance North East and are managed by former Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead.

“I am looking forward to an exciting experience that could potentially develop my career,” said McCamley.

“The FA Youth Cup competition and my everyday involvement with Lee Picton and Graham Fenton has provided me with a fantastic platform for my own football development.”

Shields boss Lee Picton highlighted the ‘significant strides’ the player had made since joining Shields Academy as a factor for the trial:

“We are delighted with the opportunity that Will has been provided. This has been justified by his recent performances in the FA Youth Cup.

“Will has made significant strides as a player from the start of the two year South Shields Football Club Academy Programme, and everyone at the football club would like to wish him all the best for this experience.”
