Netball’s point had levelled the scores at 2-2 overall.

University of Sunderland’s netball 1sts took arguably the most dramatic point of Varsity after a winner at the death gave them a 44-43 win over Teesside.

A fantastic start to the match saw Sunderland ahead at the end of the first quarter, putting away nine scores to Teesside’s eight.

And it was starting to look like they would get their first win of the season when they built a seven-point by the halfway mark.

Centre Zoe Cooper said her side “went in thinking we were going to win but we didn’t play well.

“We didn’t play well at all I feel we can play at lot better than that.”

This was apparent when Teesside came back in the third quarter, leaving them just a point behind Sunderland.

By the time the final quarter started, Teesside were on a mission to pull the win out of the bag and finally took a narrow lead.

But Sunderland fought back and netted two goals late on, including the decisive score with fewer than ten seconds on the clock, to finally take the win in entertaining fashion.
