Newcastle Diamonds latest recruit Robert Lambert believes that signing for the Tyneside club gives him the perfect opportunity to take his career to the next level.

The Diamonds announced last Friday that they have secured the services of the Great British international, and the Norwich born racer is over the moon to have finally signed for Newcastle.

Lambert said: “I am so pleased to have signed for Newcastle, when I decided to ride in the Premier League next year they were always one of my options and after talking to the promoters at the club it was a quick decision.

“My form was a bit up and down in the Premier League last year so hopefully a move to Newcastle will help improve my consistency which is what I need.”

He added: “Another year in the Premier League will improve my confidence and ability so I am really looking forward to the challenge.”

In 2015 Lambert had spells with the Peterborough Panthers and the Rye House Rockets in the second tier and now the 17-year-old is looking forward to a new challenge.

He said: “It will be great to have a different home track to get dialled into that has a much different shape in comparison to the showground and that in itself should improve my riding.

“I have been torn between riding in Poland and the Premier League over the past few weeks but what put me off a move to Poland is that you are never guaranteed a riding spot and I think for me to improve I need to be riding regularly.”

Lambert will ride at the number one position in the Diamonds side and will line up alongside previously confirmed signings Steve Worrall, Ludvig Lindgren and Tero Aarnio.

Lambert said: “I have already put a winter fitness plan together to ensure that I prepare for the new season in the best way that I can.

“I was delighted with my achievements last year in terms of riding in the World Cup and at Cardiff so I will go into 2016 with plenty of confidence and a hunger to win some silverware.”
