Newcastle Thunder have had a sloppy few weeks after their good start to the season.

Newcastle Thunder were beaten 50-6 against Barrow Raiders at Kingston Park in the fifth round of League 1 matches on Friday.

Barrow had eight different try-scorers in a great performance from Paul Crarey’s side while Tom Shaw’s 55th minute converted try represented the only points Newcastle could muster. Thunder were down to 12 men from the 28th minute onwards as Jack Aldous was dismissed for punching Oliver Wilkes.

The hosts were 26-0 down at the break following four Barrow tries and a penalty goal. Wilkes, Declan Hulme, Shane Toal and Luke Cresswell all touched down for the Cumbrian club, who had Lewis Charnock to thank for seven goals in the match including a penalty.

In the second period, Andy Litherland and Shaw exchanged tries before the Raiders crossed the whitewash three more times before the end. James Duerden, Joe Bullock and Ryan Fieldhouse were the try-scorers for Barrow, who showed their promotion credentials on a great day at the office.

As for Newcastle, work needs to be done as they’ve had a sloppy few weeks which has seen two defeats to North Wales Crusaders and a hammering against Barrow.
