Newcastle Thunder are preparing for the start of the new season in hopes of promotion from League One. Their pre-season is taking place with games against Oldham RLFC and Wakefield Trinity in place.

To start of the 2019 campaign Thunder, have a home friendly against Wakefield Trinity on Saturday 19th of January, who ended up in the 2018 play-offs and had a fantastic season last year.

After a long end of season break, this will give the squad with the new exciting additions such as Misi Taulapapa a great test before the new season starts to see how they will fare against such strong opposition.

This is then closely followed by an away match against Oldham RLFC on Sunday the 3rd of February, which is just two weeks before the new season starts and will be a crucial match for manager Jordan Robinson and coach Jason Payne to see how well the players can perform together against a side more on their level.

This sets up an exciting start to 2019 for Newcastle Thunder fans who have an exciting, young and talented squad and we should get a real sense of what they can achieve together after these two pre-season friendlies against quality opposition.
