Bryan Oviedo and his Costa Rica teammates warmed up for their World Cup campaign with defeat to England at Elland Road last night.

Oviedo played 60 minutes in the game as goals from Marcus Rashford and former Sunderland loanee Danny Welbeck meant England came away with a 2-0 victory.

The left wing-back played the full game against Northern Ireland on Sunday as Costa Rica won 3-0, Johan Venegas, Joel Campbell and Francisco Calvo with the goals.

Costa Rica have one more game before the World Cup against Belgium on Monday, New York City FC’s Ronald Matarrita is a rival for Oviedo’s spot and he will be looking to start in the World Cup.

The Central American side are taking part in their fifth World Cup and are in Group E for Russia along with Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia.

Former Sunderland players Jordan Henderson, Danny Rose and Danny Welbeck played for England against Costa Rica, with Welbeck scoring the second.

Former Black Cats shot stopper Jordan Pickford, who left for Everton last summer, played against Nigeria on Sunday but only featured on the bench in this game.

England have played their last warm up game and play against Tunisia in Group G on Monday 18th June to kick off their World Cup campaign.
